Tanweer Ansari is Executive Vice President, Chief Risk Officer and General Counsel of The First National Bank of Long Island. Tan works with the Board of Directors, Management and all staff to ensure the Bank continues meet all legal and regulatory requirements while mitigating areas of risk concurrent with the Bank’s strategic expansion.
Tan began his career in 1997 at the Office of the Attorney General of New York. Tan joined Bethpage Federal Credit Union as a Branch Manager in 1999 before moving to TD Bank as Assistant Manager in 2003. In 2007, Tan returned to Bethpage as Assistant Vice President, Associate General Counsel, Compliance and BSA Officer. In 2014, Tan joined The First National Bank of Long Island as Senior Vice President, Chief Compliance and BSA Officer where he rose to Internal Counsel in 2021, then Executive Vice President in 2022.
Tan received his Juris Doctorate, with a specialty in International Law, awarded by the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University. He also holds an MBA in management with a concentration in human resources from the Robert B. Willumstad School of Business of Adelphi University and received his undergraduate degree in english/law and public policy from Union College. Tan also attended the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at The Wharton School.
Since 2016, Tan has been a member of the Executive Committee of the New York State Bar Association Banking Law Committee and is the President of the Long Island Banks Compliance Association.
He also has been involved in Education on the School Leadership Team of his children’s school, served as a Community Education Councilmember, taught financial literacy via the ABA Teach Children to Save Program and Junior Achievement. To complement his activities, Tan joined the Adelphi University Robert B. Willumstad School of Business Advisory Board and the American Bankers Association Risk and Compliance Conference Advisory Board.
